When I first read over this line, I felt a since of familiarity. Reading it again, I picked up that it was similar to the Potter-Voldemort line that "neither can live while the other survives." Its a stretch but I feel as though it the same type of strange rivalry that they must end or else they will never be able to live full lives, or at least on the side of Aufidius. Of course at the end of the act, this doesn't happen and so he vows once more that they will fight "beard to beard... sword to sword." (Act 1.10.11,15)
