"Vindice, my lord."
"'Tis a good name, that."
"Ay, a revenger."
Act 4.2.176-179
Based on these lines, I find the title of the play more interesting, not that a person could not figure out the ending based on the word tragedy. Strictly assuming, Vindice, the revenger, will most likely die in the end. (Who didn't see that one coming?) Also, This giving of the name acts both as a way of re-introducing the old Vindice with a new plan and reminding the audience of which character the actor is playing. Changing from one character to another would be confusing especially if you were farther away from the stage, this renewal of Vindice, not Piato, reminds everyone of who is who. The following lines leading up to when Vindice says "I'm hired to kill myself" (Act 4.2.209) serve also as a refresher.
