"Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes" and "Think"

Act 2 apparently begins the flip-flopping of sides and loyalties. The Earl of Kent decides off of a whim that he doesn't like Gaveston anymore. The Queen begins to question her love of the King and whether or not to love Mortimer. She even thinks of having France retaliate against the English.

On another note, for the first time that I personally can remember in a work of literature, an author actually describes, within the text, a symbol he has used in the work. The king actually thinks about what the crests mean and how they relate to Gaveston. Reading the descriptions of the shields, I wondered why the King would not be able to see the symbolism. I was pleasantly surprised when the King criticized their insubordination.

"Proud Mortimer! Ungentle Lancaster!.... that shall swallow him." Act 2.2.29-46
